Summary

Arctic marine mammals are under threat due to the disappearance of sea ice. How Arctic marine mammals are responding to these changing conditions remains largely unclear. This thesis aims to develop and apply new methodologies for marine mammal detection and identification that can aid studying distribution and range shifts, by leveraging data-rich marine mammal populations in the southern North Sea as ‘model organisms’.
