Alumna Rosalie Tukker, policy advisor and lobbyist in Brussels
- Rosalie Tukker
- Policy Advisor at Europêche | Brussels, Belgium

“With my specialisation in marine governance, I am able to combine the needs of society and industry with a focus on sustainability every day.”
Officially I am employed as a policy advisor or as a lobbyist at Europêche, an European organisation of shipowners, fishermen and -women, and employers. Yet my daily work exists of much more.
At Europêche we promote responsible and sustainable fishing practices, linking the f ishing sector and the European institutions. I design and implement knowledge based advocacy strategies to raise awareness about sustainable ocean governance and sound fisheries management. In addition, I perform numerous European projects that Europêche manages or participates in. For example projects on ensuring safety at sea and protecting fishers’ lives, as well as environmental sustainability training, and maritime emergency training. I love that at Europêche we also defend the European fishing industry interests on a global level, while focussing on the labour aspects as a part of a sustainable agenda. This means we deal with questions related to professional training, social harmonisation and employment, and health and safety at work.
Though I did not know Europêche during my studies, nor did I think about working with European institutions, I am glad I became aware of it. While working on the creation of the 2030 North Sea strategy during my internship at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, I was approached by one of the national organisations I represent today. They were looking for somebody with a background in MAM, and asked me to go to Brussels. Now it has been 4,5 years in this very passionate, dynamic and challenging world. I am grateful to have found a job that perfectly fits my master. With my specialisation in marine governance and a background in marine biology, I am able to combine the needs of society and industry with a focus on sustainability every day.
