DEPAVE! Hofplaats, The Hague

With the realisation of the BijBinnenhofpark art project, The Hague has actually gained a world-class monument. After all, the city can now claim to have the world’s smallest official park. This tiny mini-park (50x50cm) raises awareness among local residents and authorities of the importance of stormwater runoff and heat mitigation in the built-up environment.

REALCOOL

It is assumed that urban water bodies cool their surroundings but that is usually not the case under heat wave conditions. Yet, there are hints that properly designed water environments could be really cooling. Wageningen UR will study which configurations of shading, evaporation and ventilation objects around the water bodies will improve human thermal sensation in cities. The outcome of this Research Through Design project are virtual prototypes for really cooling urban water bodies that can be easily implemented by urban design professionals.
