Using new technology to measure how people navigate through supermarkets

Having unhealthy food available at home can make it hard to withstand the temptation of eating this food. As these foods are usually bought in supermarkets, it is interesting to understand what makes people buy healthy and unhealthy food and how this can be manipulated in real supermarkets to stimulate the healthier options.

Therefore we are looking for students who are interested in:

  • Using new technology to study how people navigate through supermarkets and to see which products they bought at the end of their shopping experience
  • Using new technology to study if walking patterns in supermarkets differ over time or if they are more habitual
  • Using new technology to study if we can break through these walking patterns by placing nudges, stimulating healthy purchase decisions over unhealthy ones.
