Alternative sources
To create sustainable growth and mitigate climate change, the public-private partnership Climate-KIC consisting of European companies, academic institutions and the public sector integrates education, entrepreneurship and innovation.
For one part the focus is on alternative sources of food, feed and fuel. For food and non-food purposes, Wageningen University & Research works on the development of microalgae bio-refinery into a commercial activity for bulk products and on the fresh-water fern Azolla production as biomass for a large scale production of proteins and raw materials. Also business opportunities for sustainable biogas production are being developed.
