Interview
New! Tuesday Take-aways
On the 5th of September, Student Training & Support launches a new initiative. “Tuesday Takeaways”, short weekly workshops for students on prevalent and relatable issues. For instance: week planning and prioritising your To-Do list.
Heleen Franssen - the new STS Coordinator - will tell you more about it.
Introducing Heleen - the new coordinator of STS
As of this summer Heleen Franssen assumed the role of coordinator of Student Training & Support while also continuing her position as project coordinator of Surf your Stress. Perhaps you have already met her as a (former) Peer Coach, writing coach, host/organiser of the Exam Study weeks, or from the “No WURries” Student Support group which started in the previous academic year’s second half.
She initially started at WUR in 2019 as a student of Environmental Sciences, making her well-acquainted with student life in Wageningen. Shortly after the launch of Student Training & Support in 2020 she became part of the team as a Peer Coach; she has been involved with Student Training & Support since its beginnings.
Heleen: “I still feel closely connected to student life and can therefore easily empathise and engage with our target audience. Student Training & Support has now transitioned beyond its initial stages – spanning two years of Covid and one ‘regular’ year. Now is the time for the next step in actively tailoring our program to the wants and needs of our students.”
Tuesday Takeaways
On the 5th of September Student Training & Support launches a new initiative. “Tuesday Takeaways” are short weekly workshops for students on prevalent and relatable issues.
Heleen: “The training courses that STS has on offer typically consist of multiple sessions. This can present quite a hurdle for students. They need to commit to 4 or 5 sessions, while not (yet) clear on the benefits. With the introduction of Tuesday Takeaways, our aim is twofold: some students might find the support they need in a one-hour workshop, while for others it helps them get acquainted with STS and may be a first step to attending a more comprehensive training course.
Balance your student life
We will start with two special editions on the Forum stage. On the 5th of September, the topic will be week planning. We know planning can be a dreaded task, so we intend to show you how to make it fun and beneficial at the same time. On the 12th of September, we will delve into organising and prioritising your To-Do list so that it becomes more manageable and efficient. This can be a big help in balancing the (already busy) student life.
Starting September 19th, the regular Tuesday Takeaways will kick off. Every other week the workshops will focus on a topic related to procrastination. All students can relate to this issue; but, as trainers Michel and Roeland assure us, it is a habit that you can break free of. We hope to inspire students to invest the necessary time and energy so that they are able to get more out of their studies, both in efficiency and enjoyment. The other weeks the topics will be more diverse, all aligned with the themes of STS: Study Skills, Personal Development, Wellbeing, Communication, Career Development & Between Cultures.
