Crop protection

Introduction

Towards sustainable crop protection through innovation, risk assessment and practical solutions for safer food and a healthy environment.

At Wageningen University & Research, we study crop protection from multiple perspectives — from developing biological and technological alternatives to chemical pesticides, to assessing environmental and human health risks. Our experts monitor pesticide residues in food, analyze exposure pathways such as household dust, and develop innovative methods to minimize pesticide use.

We work with governments, industry and farmers to design strategies for sustainable crop protection, balancing agricultural productivity with environmental and health considerations. This includes the development of biological barriers, precision farming techniques and data-driven monitoring systems. By connecting science and practice, we support the transition toward resilient, low-impact food production systems.
