At Wageningen University & Research, we work on healthy soils to support sustainable agriculture, enhance ecosystem services, and develop indicators and management strategies for resilient landscapes.
Healthy soils form the foundation of productive agriculture, resilient ecosystems, and climate-proof landscapes. At Wageningen University & Research, we study the functions that soils provide and how these can be optimally used for different land-use types, from arable farming to natural vegetation.
Our researchers develop and validate measurable indicators of soil health and analyse the effects of management practices on the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of soils. We integrate different perspectives and methods, both nationally and internationally, to share knowledge and experiences and to stimulate the application of innovative solutions.
Specifically, we contribute to the implementation of the EU Soil Monitoring Directive and support the Dutch government through strategic projects. In addition, we build on earlier networks, such as EJP Soil, and develop a strategy to continue this collaboration and knowledge exchange in a structural way.
Our expertise helps companies, governments, and other partners integrate sustainable soil management into their policies and practices, ensuring that soils remain both productive and resilient.
