Marieke Felix - Brand Manager

I am responsible for the strategy on sustainability and how we can develop products in a more sustainable way.

Why did you choose to study Consumer Studies in for Wageningen?

I studied Management Economics & Consumer studies with specialization Economics of consumer & households. During the last year of my study I did my internship at Beiersdorf and never left this company. During my work here I grew from Assistant Brand Manager to Brand Manager and Local Business Lead for a new launched brand in NL.

What is your current job? And how relates that to your study at Wageningen?

I am a Global Brand Manager Sustainability for NIVEA, located in the HQ in Hamburg. Here I am responsible for the (long term) strategy on sustainability and how we can develop products in a more sustainable way, f.e. packaging, transport, formulas. This also adapted per continent; needs in Europe are different than in Asia or South Amerika for example. And from here work on the roll-out for the countries; such as campaigns, sell-in stories etc.

My job really has a business marketing focus, where there are also BM function within other companies which are more consumer marketing focus. So I do not only focus on communication aspects but a big part of my job is data driven and related, and really focussed on consumer behaviour and trends.

What are your future goals?

Learning how other consumers in other cultures behave and discover how you can differently act as a brand in different situations. First step to a global functions is already a stop in this goal.
