Lighthouse Farm Lab Finland: Building Circular Food Systems

This course is for professionals working in:

• Circular agriculture, bioeconomy and renewable energy
• Regional development, policy, community-based food strategies
• Large-scale arable systems seeking to improve self-sufficiency
• Organisations facing supply risks due to geopolitics or climate

• Build circular systems that connect farms, communities and local industry
• Use biomass, renewable energy and nutrient cycles as tools for resilience
• Understand how different production systems can close input/output loops at different scales
• Evaluate geopolitical risks and design regionally resilient food systems
• Recognise value creation from soil to society across multiple spatial scales

During the Lab you will:

• Visit circular farms that integrate energy production, biomass and nutrient cycling
• Learn how communities collaborate to become more food and energy secure
• Explore Finland's approach to farming in the context of geopolitics
• Analyse models for decentralised, resilient food production
• Collaborate with other experts on redesigning circular food systems
• Connect with processors and policymakers that will highlight how market and government can help to apply the concepts of circularity

Before joining the Lab, you must complete the Lighthouse Farm Academy's online learning modules to build a shared foundation. These modules provide essential concepts, farmer insights and system-thinking tools that prepare you to fully engage in the real-world learning experience at the Lab.
