Lighthouse Farm Lab Finland: Building Resilient Food Systems through Circularity

This course is for professionals working in:

• Regional development, policy, community-based food strategies
• Farming systems and practitioners that are seeking to improve self-sufficiency
• Organisations facing supply risks due to geopolitics or climate
• Circular agriculture, bioeconomy and renewable energy

• Design resilient food systems that connect farms, communities and local industry

• Understand how different production systems can close input/output loops at different scales
• Create regionally resilient food systems that are better prepared for a variety of disturbances

During the Lab you will:

• Visit circular farms that integrate energy production, biomass and nutrient cycling
• Learn how communities collaborate to become more food and energy secure
• Explore Finland's approach to farming in the context of geopolitics
• Analyse models for decentralised, resilient food production
• Collaborate with other experts on redesigning circular food systems
• Connect with processors and policymakers that will highlight how market and government can help to apply the concepts of circularity

Before joining the Lab, you must complete the Lighthouse Farm Academy's online learning modules to build a shared foundation. These modules provide essential concepts, farmer insights, and system-thinking tools that prepare you to fully engage in the real-world learning experience at the Lab.
