About Carus

Wageningen University & Research conducts studies that benefit animals in the Carus animal research facility. Among other things, we study animal behaviour and the interaction between humans and their pets, dogs, for example. We investigate how we may improve the welfare of farm animals such as cows and pigs, and we search for the best animal feed, ranging from cat food to feed for chickens and fish.

At Carus, research is conducted on animal behavior and welfare, human-animal interaction, and the most suitable feed for animals. Carus means "valued" in Latin and is associated with "to care." These are two key principles for WUR's animal research, which adheres to the highest scientific, humane, and ethical principles. Read more about how WUR conducts animal experiments, or about our animal research in general.
