Education project started in Iraq
Karrar Mahdi, an Iraqi scientist at the Soil Physics and Land Management group (SLM) in Wageningen, will coordinate the project "Efficient water management in Iraq by switching to climate smart agriculture". The project has received a budget of 1,3 million euros. One-third of that budget will be spent at WUR to give scientific and educational assistance.
The project is the first institutional collaboration project in Iraq. The call for proposals was announced by Nuffic (programme manager of the Orange Knowledge Programme) on 26 June 2019. The proposal was submitted by a Dutch-Iraq consortium led by Wageningen University (SLM-ESG, the project director is prof. Coen Ritsema). The Dutch consortium consists of; WUR, IHE Delft and iCRA global, the Iraq consortium consist of; University of Salahaddin, University of Basra, University of Mosul, University of Anbar, Kerbala University and University of Kufa.
