Inspiring and informative: ICO National Spring School 2024
On April 18th and 19th, the 12th ICO National Spring School event took place at Utrecht University. This biannual two-day conference is open to all ICO Members. A networking event full of learning opportunities, where our own ELS PhD candidates were well represented.
It all started with a keynote by Christine Teelken on Post-PhD careers. She made us contemplate on working in the private, public, or non-profit sector, as around two-third of the doctoral graduates will find their employment outside academia. Next up was the first of many interesting presentation rounds: posters, round table sessions, and paper presentations. And, as the proof of the pudding is in the eating, ELS was amongst others represented by Chenjie Yang, Weiwei Liu, Daan Buijs, Mirthe van den Hee, Xingshi Gao, Janine Mommers, and myself, Julianne de Leeuwe. We’ve all showcased a part of our research in one of the rounds and gathered meaningful insights and inspiration. A special compliment to those who presented their work for the first time. A wonderful and exciting step in the PhD pathway. To me personally, the process of making the poster was already helpful. Moving from divergence to convergence and in a concise yet appealing way trying to convey the most important aspects of my research sharpened the mind. In between all these presentations, we had a meet and greet with the ICO theme groups, a workshop round, an information market, and the possibility of a conference dinner. All in all enough opportunities to connect, join lively presentations, fruitful discussions, give and receive feedback, and gain understanding on a variety of educational research.
