PhD candidate Hongyu Sun wins 2nd prize at IUFRO Symposium
PhD candidate Hongyu Sun received the 2nd oral presentation prize at the IUFRO International Symposium on Pine Wilt Disease in Nanjing, China
Hongyu’s study focuses on the cost-effectiveness of an alternative strategy compared to the regulated clear-cutting approach by combining an individual-based model with an economic model. Her results indicated that tree-by-tree selective cutting is more cost-effective than implementing a clear-cutting
strategy. This work highlights the importance of exploring more environmentally friendly alternatives to better protect plants. More information about Hongyu’s project can be found at her project page.
