Pol Grootswagers focuses on nutrition and ageing, finding strategies to promote independence of living. He does so via two main research

1. Slowing down biological ageing via nutrition and lifestyle
2. Dietary protein quality and muscle health in older adults

Dr Grootswagers obtained his PhD in 2020, the title of the Nutritional Strategies to Improve Muscle Quality during Ageing. He coordinates multiple research projects around nutrition, biological ageing, protein quality and muscle health at older ages. He is involved in a large randomised controlled trial which investigates the effects of entirely plant-based diets on the muscle health of older adults. He leads a European consortium that develops a tool to monitor the protein quality of diets. He is the coordinator of the master course Nutrition and the Ageing Body and a board member of the Dutch Society for Research in Ageing.

Pol Grootswagers works as an assistant professor at the division, and is in the WUR Tenure Track.
