At our diagnostic laboratories, we offer more than 300 validated tests to detect infectious diseases in animals. We support veterinarians, authorities, traders and research partners with reliable diagnostics, from individual cases to large-scale surveillance.
What research is conducted here?
As the national reference laboratory for a wide range of notifiable animal diseases, we monitor the health of livestock, pets, shellfish and wildlife.
Our diagnostics also support export certification, regulatory compliance and R&D by linking laboratory findings to applied research.

Our laboratories operate under different biosafety levels, enabling safe work with highly contagious pathogens.
- All laboratories meet at least BSL-2 standards.
- A BSL-3 facility and high-containment units are available for work with veterinary BSL-4 pathogens, such as foot-and-mouth disease and classical swine fever.
- We also conduct studies involving genetically modified organisms (GMO) at all biosafety levels.

We test a wide range of pathogens, from viruses and bacteria to parasites and toxins. ISO 9001
Wageningen Bioveterinary Research is certified according to the ISO 9001 standard.
ISO 17025
Several specific tests are performed under ISO 17025 accreditation (scope L389). Accredited tests for specific species and matrices are clearly listed in our price list. A full list of accredited services is available on request via the contact person listed on the RvA website.
ISO 17043
Several proficiency tests are organised under ISO 17043 accreditation; see scope R021 for more information.
