The benefits
In short- Free for schools
- Learning about nutrition
- Normalising fruit and vegetables
The EU School fruit and vegetable programme helps schools encourage children to eat more fruit and vegetables in a fun and educational way. For 20 weeks, pupils receive three portions per week thanks to EU funding.
About the programme
Many children do not eat enough fruit and vegetables, even though these are vital for healthy growth and development. The EU School fruit and vegetable programme supports schools in improving these eating habits in an engaging and accessible way. The programme is free for primary and special education schools, made possible by funding from the European Union.
For twenty weeks, pupils receive free fruit and vegetables at school three times a week. They learn first-hand how tasty and natural healthy food can be. Teachers are also supported with food education materials and guidance on creating a school fruit policy, making fruit and vegetables a standard part of school life. This way, the EU School fruit and vegetable programme contributes to lifelong healthy habits.
