Do you want to improve your Dutch language skills even further, for example so you can talk with colleagues or friends about your research, arts and politics? Would you like to participate in discussions at work or with your acquaintances? Do you think it would be fun to be able to talk with your neighbours, for instance about your living environment? Would you like to broaden your vocabulary, practice communication skills and also learn what makes things typically Dutch? Then take part in the Advanced Dutch 1 course.

Who is this course suitable for?

Target group

The course is for international employees, PhD candidates or expats who already have prior knowledge of Dutch and who want to learn Dutch for social purposes on and outside their workplace.

From on the way to B1 to B1

You need prior knowledge of Dutch to start. If you have completed Intermediate Dutch 3, you can participate in Advanced Dutch 1. You can also start if you have studied Dutch before, for example, in your own country. Schedule an online intake via into@wur.nl so we can determine which level is suitable.

This course will help you reach B1 language level. After completing this course, you can continue learning Dutch with our Advanced Dutch 2 course (level: on the way to B2). Learn more about the language levels (CEFR).

Approach
You'll learn to communicate in Dutch. All skills are covered: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. We'll focus on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and Dutch customs and traditions. Reading and writing will be done largely through independent study.

In this French 3 course, we cover a range of grammar topics, including:

  • The difference between the passé composé and the imparfait
  • The plus-que-parfait
  • The participe présent and the gérondif
  • Expressing condition and regret
  • Giving advice
  • Giving a substantiated opinion
  • Indirect questions
  • Passive sentences
  • Indirect speech
  • The subjonctif
  • The pronoun EN
