Intensive summer course Social Dutch 2
The intensive summer course Social Dutch 2 will fully immerse you in the Dutch language for one week. Are you a bachelor or master student at Wageningen University & Research? Have you finished Social Dutch 1 and find yourself wanting more? Or do you already have some basic knowledge and want to learn the language even better for social reasons? Then our Intensive summer course Social Dutch 2 course might just be the thing for you. During this course, you will learn how to talk about, for example, past events. After this course, you will be able to engage your fellow students in small talk in Dutch!
Target group
The course is for bachelor and master's students of Wageningen University & research who already have some prior knowledge of Dutch and who want to learn Dutch for social purposes quickly.

Course content
The main goal of this course is to learn to communicate in Dutch in simple, everyday situations.
What will this course teach you?
- ask about arrival and departure times;
- ask where the bus stops;
- book a trip;
- make a hotel room reservation;
- talk about your house;
- ask for someone's address;
- talk about things that happened in the past/past events;
- talk about your holidays;
- order in a café or restaurant;
- make a reservation at a restaurant;
- talk about (your favourite) food and drinks;
- ask about clothing;
- describe colours;
- express your dissatisfaction about something;
- make conversation in a store.
Grammar is always discussed in a communicative context and in functional situations.
For example: When you learn to talk about things that happened in the past, you simultaneously learn about the voltooid tegenwoordige tijd because knowledge of this grammatical concept is relevant to clearly talk or write about the past.
This course will also cover Dutch pronunciation and interesting aspects of Dutch culture.
The lecturer will speak Dutch as much as possible during the course.
Admission requirements
For this course you need prior knowledge of Dutch. You can sign up for this course, if you have participated in Social Dutch 1 or the Intensive summer course Social Dutch 1.
Have you studied Dutch before? Then make an appointment via into@wur.nl for an intake interview to discuss which course is suitable.
If German is your native language, you have the option to start with Social Dutch 2 right away, on the condition that you independently study chapters 1 through 5 of the course book prior to the first class.
Prior to the course start participants will receive a short self-study package with preparatory exercises. All participants are expected to complete the exercises before the course start. This will take about 1 hour.

Location
If you register for an online course, you follow the course entirely online using the Virtual Classroom in Brightspace. If you choose a face-to-face course, the classes will take place at our location: Forum, Wageningen Campus.
Number of meetings
The course runs for 1 week. You will have two classes per day, 4.5 hours in total.

25 hours of self-study in total.

Certification
After the course you will receive a certificate from Wageningen in’to Languages, provided you have attended at least 80% of the classes. With this certificate you can continue with Social Dutch 3.

* The courses Social Dutch 1 & 2 are part of the free courses Social Dutch for students. These are free for Master's and Bachelor's students who have attended 80% of the classes (8 of the 10). If this requirement has not been fullfilled, the student will receive an invoice at the end of the course of €90.
