Are you sharing copyright protected materials in Brightspace, such as a book chapter? This is still allowed, but the limits have become stricter. Check your course and use hyperlinks or (open) alternatives where possible.

Check if you're still sharing material within the limit of the new Easy Access Agreement

As of 2023, you may use a maximum of 40 pages and not more than 20% of a complete book or journal issue in a Brightspace course or in a reader. Note that you could previously use 50 pages and maximum 25% of a book or journal. Based on this change we’d like to encourage you to check that the material you’re
sharing still falls within these limits.

What can you do it you're exceeding the limit?

First check if you can hyperlink to the material instead of uploading it to Brightspace. Hyperlinked material is always allowed, and this is actually WUR policy to hyperlink to material whenever possible.

If hyperlinking is not possible, you can explore one of the following options:

  • Reduce the amount of pages you’re sharing to still fall within the limits.
  • Find alternative/similar material to which you could hyperlink or that you could share within the limits of the Easy Access Agreement.
  • Ask the copyright owners for permission to use the material.
  • Ask WUR Library if a journal or book subscription allows the use of these larger portions.
  • Request permission from Stichting UvO to use the material through their webportal.
  • Ask students to buy the book.
