Are you financially savvy, analytical, and detail-oriented? Are you looking for a challenging role that offers plenty of opportunities for professional growth? Then read on and apply!

The Wageningen Environmental Sciences Group (ESG) is looking for a Project Controller to strengthen its Finance & Control (F&C) team.

As a Project Controller, you will become part of an enthusiastic Finance & Control department of approximately 40 FTE. The team offers an open, driven, and collaborative working environment. In addition to the Project Control team, the department also includes Financial Administration, Business Control, and Chair Group Administration teams.

In this role, you will work closely with colleagues on a wide range of project control topics and help safeguard processes to minimize financial and operational risks.

Your responsibilities

As a Project Controller, you will:

  • Be responsible for the financial management of a diverse portfolio of research projects;
  • Be involved in all phases of the project lifecycle, from proposal and acquisition through to financial closure;
  • Act as the financial point of contact for project leaders, providing both solicited and unsolicited advice;
  • Be responsible for project result determination and reporting for monthly and annual financial reporting purposes, including internal monitoring and external reporting such as the annual accounts;
  • Contribute to identifying, monitoring, and managing project risks and support the implementation of internal control measures.

You will work independently with a high level of responsibility while collaborating closely with your Finance & Control colleagues.

As a Project Controller at ESG, you will have the opportunity to further develop your expertise while making a meaningful contribution to research and innovation addressing some of society’s most important challenges

Your qualities

We ask of you:

  • You are someone who has:
  • A higher professional education (HBO) degree, preferably in Business Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field;
  • Demonstrable affinity with finance and a solid understanding of basic financial administration and accounting processes;
  • Strong analytical skills and a structured, accurate approach to work, with a focus on delivering high-quality results;
  • Excellent communication skills, enabling you to effectively bridge the gap between project leaders and the Finance & Control team;
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • In addition, you recognize the following qualities in yourself: you take initiative, act with integrity, have a customer-focused mindset, and are continuously looking for opportunities to further develop your skills and expertise.
  • Speaking Dutch is mandatory for this position. A level of Dutch B2 is sufficient.

In our international working environment, communication is increasingly taking place in English. For this position, the required language level is B1. If you do not yet meet this level, we will of course support you—our language centre, Wageningen in’to Language, is available to help you.

Do you lack directly relevant work experience but recognise yourself in these qualities? Then we warmly invite you to apply anyway. WUR offers plenty of onboarding opportunities for starters and those transferring or entering from other fields.
