DocuScience: CUCo
Interdisciplinary collaborations are easier said than done! The complexity of societal challenges requires approaches that cross disciplinary and institutional boundaries. This documentary, presented by the Centre for Unusual Collaborations (CUCo), highlights the challenges of interdisciplinary collaboration in the Structures of Strength project team. In this documentary a group of mid-career academics ranging from geologists, to art historians, to medical scientists and beyond, takes you along their interdisciplinary journey. 1+1=3 shows their great enthusiasm, as well as the barriers they encounter. It also shows how some of those are overcome.
About CUCo
A group of diverse and very enthusiastic mid-career academics (coming from TU/e, WUR, UU and UMC Utrecht) collaborates around the topic of ‘porous materials’. They range from geologists, to art historians, to medical scientists, and beyond. Such unusual collaborations across disciplines support addressing complex societal challenges. They offer opportunity for academics to further explore their curiosity, by encountering other perspectives.
Despite their enthusiasm and the availability of funding, the group runs into a lack of recognition and reward for their ground-breaking work. And they learn that it takes a specific set skills to make their collaborative work meaningful and effective. The documentary ‘1+1=3’ takes you on a journey with this research team to explore barriers as well as ways to overcome them.
The documentary will be presented, followed by a facilitated discussion about (individual experiences with) recognition and appreciation with regards to interdisciplinarity. The documentary is especially relevant to policymakers in academic institutes, research funders, and researchers with an interest in interdisciplinary research, yet everyone is welcome to participate!

The documentary will be shown in Omnia and admission is free of charge. The program will begin at 19:00h, with the room opening at 18:30h. You can register via the Forms. After the program, the bar at Faculty Club Novum is open for drinks and a chat while enjoying a free drink.
Dinner in restaurant Novum beforehand?
Restaurant Novum, in Omnia, offers a special DocuDinner especially for DocuScience. For 17,50 euro, you will be served a delicious vegetarian main course, with fries and a fresh salad. The DocuDinner starts at 17:30h. Reservation is required and can be done through an e-mail. As a dinner guest, you will have a reserved seat in the auditorium, so you are guaranteed of a spot at the documentary.

This year the second edition of DocuScience takes place, a program in Omnia where employees of Wageningen Campus share insights into the inspiring work happening at Campus. We will explore new perspectives through provocative documentaries that encourage conversation. Everyone working at Wageningen Campus is welcome, so bring your colleagues!
