Veredeling op resistentie bij Solanaceae
De onderzoeksgroep richt zich op de ontwikkeling van veredelingsstrategieën voor duurzame resistentie in solanaceeën. Daarbij wordt met name onderzocht welke genetische en moleculaire mechanismen ten grondslag liggen aan de resistentie van aardappel en tomaat tegen Phytophthora, meeldauw, Botrytis, bacteriën en virussen. We gebruiken allerlei genetische en genomicsmethoden om nieuwe natuurlijke resistentiegenen te vinden en hun interactie met het bijbehorende pathogeen te bestuderen. Via vergelijkende biologie passen we de verkregen kennis over tomaat en aardappel toe op andere solanaceeën die verwant zijn aan deze gewassen maar veel minder goed gekarakteriseerd zijn, bijvoorbeeld paprika en aubergine.
