Demi van der Horst – Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow
As part of her Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship, Demi van der Horst investigates the early stages of Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) infection following transmission by mosquitoes. Her research focuses on understanding how the virus initiates replication in the skin—the first site of virus–host interaction during natural infection.

This work, conducted at Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR), leverages the institute’s strong expertise in arbovirus pathogenesis and vector–host dynamics. The project, titled INTERSECT, aims to develop novel tools and approaches that advance our understanding of arbovirus biology and support broader applications in the field.
