dr. BF (Bart) van Oort

I am an interdisciplinary scientist and educator fascinated by understanding nature, using approaches from chemistry, physics and biology. I studied Molecular Sciences at Wageningen University, where I also did my PhD in biophysics, followed by a research position at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. I developed and applied several analytical, spectroscopic and microscopic methods. This helped me study complex reactions and processes in biological materials, with a focus on light reactions in photosynthesis and light-driven enzymes.

When I started as a lecturer at Wageningen University in 2020, I found my true passion in explaining complex topics in comprehensible terms. I teach physical chemistry and microbiology courses to >10 BSc programmes and am part of the Programme Committee of Molecular Life Sciences.
