Biografie
Jarl K. Kampen is an assistant professor (UD1) in Biometris at Wageningen University & Research. A statistician and research methodologist, he specializes in the philosophy of science, research design, and measurement, combining conceptual rigor with practical tools for robust empirical analysis. He teaches research methods and statistics at BSc, MSc and PhD level across diverse domains and provides methodological consultancy in short- and long-term collaborations in the Netherlands and Belgium. His previous posts include methodologist at Statistics Netherlands and postdoctoral appointments at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and KU Leuven; he also served as a guest professor at the University of Antwerp, where he contributed to the FLAMES network. He has taught widely, including WASS PhD courses and the Essex Summer School. His publications span methodology and applied science, with contributions in venues such as Quality & Quantity, Metaphilosophy, and Measurement, alongside interdisciplinary outlets in health, environment, and the social sciences. He is a member of the Research Ethics Committee (since 2023) and serves on the PSG Works Council (since 2024). As a statistical and methodological consultant he provides methodological and statistical support to many applied researchers in short and long-term interdisciplinary collaborations, including Erasmus+ (CASES+; ref: 603014-EPP-1-2018-1-UK-SPOSCP) and Horizon2020 (e.g., “Developing Sustainable PERmanent Grassland systems and policies SuperG)”. Jarl publishes regularly in the theoretical (statistics, methodology) and applied scientific literature.
