dr. R (Renzo) Akkerman

Renzo Akkerman is Associate Professor in Operations Research and Logistics at Wageningen University. Earlier, he was Professor in Operations Management and Technology at the Technical University of Munich and Associate Professor in Operations Management at the Technical University of Denmark.

He graduated from the University of Groningen with a PhD in Operations Management and an MSc in Econometrics and Operations Research.

His research focuses on food supply chain management and sustainable operations management. Specific topics range from efficient resource (e.g. water) utilization in production environments to the design and planning of food supply chains considering food-specific characteristics (e.g. quality, safety, and sustainability). He is also interested in the logistics challenges behind the transition to a more circular economy.

  The EURO working group on Sustainable Supply Chains is one of the working groups of the Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO). Working groups are communities of interest related to a specific topic within the field of Operations Research. In the EURO working group on Sustainable Supply Chains, we for instance organize summer schools, conferences, and a biannual PhD thesis award.
