dr. S (Suzanne) Abbring, PhD
Biografie
Suzanne Abbring is a scientist in the field of nutritional immunology, focusing on immune function in the elderly and in individuals with compromised immune systems. Her work explores how the immune system responds to challenges such as illness or surgery, with the goal of identifying the optimal timing to intervene and support recovery when immune function is suppressed. She also studies nutritional strategies to counteract age-related immune decline (immunosenescence), particularly the role of dietary fibers such as beta-glucans and arabinoxylans in enhancing immune responsiveness.
She obtained her PhD from Utrecht University in 2019, where she demonstrated the allergy-protective effects of raw cow’s milk and its bioactive whey proteins in preclinical and clinical studies. Suzanne holds a BSc and MSc in Nutrition and Health from Wageningen University.
Currently, Suzanne works as a staff scientist in the Nutritional Biology chair group within the Division of Human Nutrition and Health at Wageningen University. She is actively involved in research, teaching, and the supervision of BSc and MSc students, as well as PhD candidates.
