Biografie
Abele Kuipers, Ph.D., studied animal science at Wageningen University, the Netherlands, and, on basis of a Harkness Fellowship, dairy science and farm economics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA. He was awarded ‘best young scientist’ by the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA). Abele became manager of the Dairy Division of the Netherlands’ Farmers Organisation (Landbouwschap). He was director of the Experimental Research Stations for Cattle, Sheep and Horse Husbandry in the Netherlands for 12 years. He is presently director of the Expertise Centre for Farm Management and Knowledge Transfer of Wageningen University & Research. He also works for Wageningen Livestock Research and Wageningen Economic Research. His expertise fields are farm management and knowledge dissemination. He is active in supporting the development of farm tools. He was scientific coordinator of the EU projects FreeWalk (www.freewalk.eu) and Climate Care Cattle farming (www.CCCfarming.eu). He participates presently in the EU network project Resilience for Dairy (R4D). He was president of the Cattle Commission of the European Association for Animal Production (EAAP) for 12 years. He is a general assembly member of the World Association for Animal Production (WAAP), as a representative of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA), and council member of the International Farm Management Association (IFMA).
