My name is Gian Luigi and I am a PhD Candidate from Italy and I joined the AEP group in September 2026. I hold a Master's Degree in Environmental, Cultural, and Territorial Economics. 

In the next four years, I will work on the Horizon Europe Project "Optimising Bioeconomy Innovation Ecosystems for Substitution, Circularity, and Longevity to Decouple Sustainability Trade-offs" (BIOSCALES), under the guidance and supervision of Prof. Dr. JHH (Justus) Wesseler and K (Kutay) Cingiz PhD.

The main objective of BIOSCALES is to address the challenges of bioeconomy as a pathway to a sustainable economic system, finding a balance between ecological, social, and economic trade-offs. 

Specifically, I will work, on the one hand, on the development of an ex-ante evaluation framework that quantifies societal costs and benefits of bioeconomic innovation pathways and investment bundles and, on the other hand, on the assessment of distributional and intergenerational justice in the bioeconomy at different scales.
