M (Maree) Bouterakos
Biografie
Maree is a highly experienced Nutritionist/Dietitian with ten years of international development expertise honed across the Asia-Pacific region within academic, clinical, and UN agencies (WFP, FAO).
Previously Head of Nutrition for the World Food Programme (WFP) in Lao PDR, Maree brings a proven track record of successful project management, leading the design, implementation, coordination, evaluation, and management of impactful nutrition programs. Her focus has been on nutrition-sensitive agriculture and food system transformation, prioritising the improved nutritional status of women of reproductive age (15-49 years), children, and adolescents.
With prior roles at WFP Headquarters in Italy, FAO in Italy and Sri Lanka, Deakin University, and INGOs in the Philippines and Cambodia, Maree possesses a deep understanding of diverse cultural contexts and excels in building strong relationships with government officials, donors, and communities. A confident and creative public speaker, she effectively leads and motivates multi-cultural teams.
Maree is passionate about exploring the multifaceted impacts of food systems on all forms of malnutrition, including overweight and obesity, and seeks to contribute to applied research initiatives in Asia and Africa.
