Call for partners: Healthy chickens by enhancing their gut microbiome

At Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR), we believe that the microbiome is key to ensuring healthier and more resilient broiler chickens. Are you also passionate about broiler chicken health, microbiology and agricultural sustainability? If you answer is yes, we are looking for you! Join us for a Public-Private Partnership collaboration on Improvement of broiler chicken health by modulating their gut intestinal microbiota using in vivo and in vitro approaches.

Therefore, in this proposal we aim to use the chicken gut microbiota as a key factor to evaluate:

  • Broiler microbiota composition related with age and breed
  • Effect of diet and other environmental factors on broiler microbiota, physiology and metabolism
  • Minimise the antibiotic use and reduce diseases susceptibility

The results will help to increase the knowledge of the different factors that affect the broiler chicken's gut microbiota (breed, age, diet, antibiotics, and environment reservoir) and the modulation through the inclusion of feed additives (diets) to enhance broiler chickens growth gut function/welfare and control the presence of zoonotic pathogens.

Public-Private-Partnership (PPP)

All interested industry/biotech are welcome to join us in this multi-year Public-Private-Partnership (PPP). The aim is to obtain government funding of 50% with 50% co-financing from our industry partners, over a period of max. 4 years.
