With the intensive summer course Basic Dutch 2 you will be fully immersed in the Dutch language for two weeks. Would you like to be able to speak Dutch with your colleagues, supervisor, friends or neighbours? What about travelling by public transport, ordering in cafés or restaurants or shopping in the Netherlands? Would you also like to learn about Dutch customs and traditions, both within and outside the university? If so, our Basic Dutch 2 course is perfect for you. This course is a continuation of (the intensive) Basic Dutch 1 course, but you can also take it if you already have some basic understanding of the language.
Who is this course suitable for?
This course is geared towards international employees, PhD candidates or expats with little knowledge of the Dutch language and who are interested in learning the language for social purposes.
Admission requirements

From entry level A1 to A1
For the intensive summer course Basic Dutch 2, you need prior knowledge of Dutch. If you have participated in Basic Dutch 1 or the intensive summer course Basic Dutch 1, you can start this course.
You can also start if you have previously studied Dutch elsewhere, for example, in your own country. Schedule an online intake via into@wur.nl so we can determine which level is suitable.
If German is your native language, we offer you the opportunity to start directly in Basic Dutch 2, provided you study Chapters 1 through 5 of the course book beforehand.
This course will help you reach language level A1. Read more about the language levels (CEFR).
What will the course cover?
Skills
After this course you can:
- Ask about arrival and departure times;
- Ask where the bus stops;
- Book a trip;
- Reserve a hotel room;
- Talk about your home;
- Ask for someone's address;
- Talk about past events;
- Talk about your vacation;
- Order at a café or restaurant;
- Make a reservation at a restaurant;
- Talk about (your favorite) food and drinks;
- Ask about clothes;
- Describe colors;
- Say you're not satisfied with something;
- Have conversations in a shop;
Grammar
Grammar is always addressed in a communicative context and in functional situations.
For example: When you learn to talk about events in the past, you also learn about the present perfect tense, because knowledge of this grammatical topic is useful and relevant for speaking or writing clearly about past events.
The course also focuses on Dutch pronunciation and interesting aspects of Dutch culture.
The teacher uses Dutch as much as possible during the course.

The course fee does not include course materials.
Payment: We will send you an invoice by email on the day the course starts.
The course consists of 10 lessons. You should also allow 1.5 hours of self-study per day to reach the desired level. The maximum number of participants per group is 16.
You will attend classes at our location: Forum, Wageningen Campus.

After the course you will receive a certificate from Wageningen in’to Languages, provided you have attended at least 80% of the classes.
