Postdoctoral Researcher

Tim Stevens is an interdisciplinary scientist with expertise in communication and collaboration, educational innovation, and digital media. He is currently involved in research projects on 1) the transition to online education, and 2) the redesign lab method.
The first research aims to provide insights into the factors that shape the effective adoption of online education at WUR. The global corona pandemic has forced an abrupt transition to online education. Although there is some knowledge (both scientific and practical knowledge) about the factors that contribute to the effective adoption of online teaching methods, the crisis situation of today presents an entirely new set of circumstances that has never been witnessed before. The current transition to online education thus provides a unique opportunity to learn about the factors that contribute to educational innovation and the effective adoption of online tools. We will study what online tools are used for different teaching methods, how these online tools are used in practice and evaluated by both teachers and students, and how this impacts the learning of students (and teachers). Second, the Redesign lab is a new method that aims to bring teachers that want to radically innovate their course together in a professional community with support staff and educational experts, and facilitate a process from problem analysis, via goal formulation to implementation. The research will monitor and evaluate this process, to optimize the process and to inform broader educational innovations in the future.
