Our Climatic Future - Between Pessimism and Hope
It seems difficult to not become pessimistic in times of an unfolding climate disaster and geopolitical crisis. As our attention is drawn to conflict, war and imperialism, concerns for the climate seem to diminish and the 1.5C degree target is steadily moving out of reach. Where do we draw hope from in such desperate times? Join us to explore different strategies and sources of inspiration for bridging pessimism and hope to build a more sustainable future.

If You Choose, Try To Lose
Some people are still working hard to deny climate change and its terrible consequences, but it is becoming increasingly difficult. Now it’s no longer the ‘progressive left’, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, the IPCC or your friend from Droevendaal who is spreading the not-so-happy message. Earlier this year even UK's national security, warned: ‘The climate crisis will bring existential dangers for which we are still unprepared’. In this interactive lecture, inspired by some witty Jester writers, Judith Butler, Ted Lasso, Oona Morrow, Andreas Reckwitz, Chizu Sato, Lou Reed, Yulia Kisora, Julia K. Steinberger, Ina Möller and others, Martijn Duineveld opposes ecomodernism and techno fetishism, advocates for embracing loss and cultivate greater sensitivity to the diverse alternative sustainable imaginaries that already exists or are emerging as we speak. Is this the way forward to make Wageningen University the coolest cooling climate university in the world?
