Education of Aquaculture biology and Fisheries ecology

Students in a college room

Within Wageningen University & Research, the Aquaculture biology and Fisheries ecology Group is responsible for academic teaching and research in the field of aquaculture and fisheries.

We participate in education at BSc, MSc and PhD level, often closely aligned with our research. Aquaculture biology and Fisheries ecology contributes to undergraduate teaching in the BSc Animal Sciences and of the BSc Marine Sciences. A large part of our education efforts on aquaculture and fisheries is embedded in the programme of the MSc Aquaculture and Marine Resource Management, which aims to train academic professionals in the field of sustainable use, conservation and restoration of marine and aquatic ecosystems and resources.

"Aquaculture biology and Fisheries ecology" is also one of the "biological" chairs at WU, providing a graduation outlet for Biology students.

At PhD level our education efforts are embedded in the Graduate School ‘Wageningen Institute of Animal Sciences’ (WIAS) and include several short training courses, such as workshops on Fish Immunology & Vaccination, Nutrition, and Recirculating Systems.

Theses and internships

If you wish to discuss the possibilities of a thesis or internship at AFI, please first join one of the bi-weekly Meet & Greets. Every first and third Tuesday of the month from 13:00-14:00 there will be an online meeting. Here we can meet and discuss the possibilities. Please don't hesitate to stop by. Even if your ideas are very broad, you’re welcome!

Sign up for Meet & Greets

Please email office.AFI@wur.nl to let us know that you are interested in participating in one of these Meet & Greets. Please also mention in your email if you are interested in aquaculture, fisheries, or if you are not sure yet.
