Policies: health justice & equity

The "Policies" aspect of our work involves investigating governance practices and policies that impact health justice, equity, and population health. We examine how social, political, and economic frameworks influence public health outcomes.
Through our research, we strive to advance equitable policies that promote health for all. By collaborating with policymakers and communities, we advocate for positive changes that lead to healthier societies. Join us in our mission to create fair and just health policies.
Our projects
CINPHIA
Co-creation and Integration of Planetary Health Impact Assessment in policy practice (CINPHIA)
The health of people and that of the planet are inextricably linked. Both are under pressure due to climate change, environmental pollution, and loss of biodiversity. CINPHIA is testing an early version of the PHIA Guide on climate policy regarding potential effects on infectious diseases, and on sustainable medicines policy regarding effects on the natural environment. Use by policymakers is encouraged by embedding the full Compass in existing policy procedures and structures through an e-learning module and a public interaction module. CINPHIA is carried out by a collective of knowledge institutions, ministries, provinces and municipalities, implementing organizations, and citizens. Contact person: Marleen Bekker

HANS
Health in All Networks Simulator (HANS)
Social networks play an important role in people's health and wellbeing, but are often overlooked in community health initiatives. The HANS project develops a digital tool to explore how social connections can support healthier and more resilient communities. Using computer simulations, researchers model how different health interventions might work and how they could affect people's health, wellbeing and resilience. Developed together with local stakeholders, the Health in All Networks Simulator allows users to test different approaches virtually and explore how strengthening social networks can improve the health and wellbeing of adults in Amsterdam.
