For who is this course fitting?
To be able to participate in the course, you are expected to have at least a BSc level of education in Food Science and Technology or a related field, such as Chemical Engineering or Biotechnology.
The language of instruction of this course is in English.
Learning outcomes
- Prepare Sankey diagrams for the visualisation of mass and energy flows.
- Apply pinch analysis for the overview of heat requirements and optimisation of re-use of heat in complex production systems.
Programme details
In the online master's course, we will explore the impact of different choices in food production and processing methods. We will focus on evaluating existing and new technologies using appropriate instruments and designing process systems optimising using resources such as materials, water, and energy.
This course will provide two analytical evaluation tools:
- Analysis of mass and energy flows in a process system
- Pinch Analysis, which assesses the efficient use and re-use of energy
We will apply these instruments to various food production systems, ranging from the large-scale supply chain and factory level to specific product and unit operations.
The online master's course consists of online knowledge clips, digital exercises and case studies. All information will be provided on Brightspace.
Combining courses
When you want to learn more about food biotechnology and processing, other courses are interesting for you too. You can deepen your knowledge in a specific career field without completing a Master's programme.
