Intensive summer course Basic Dutch 2
With the intensive summer course Basic Dutch 2 you will be fully immersed in the Dutch language for two weeks. Would you like to be able to speak Dutch with your colleagues, supervisor, friends or neighbours? What about travelling by public transport, ordering in cafés or restaurants or shopping in the Netherlands? Would you also like to learn about Dutch customs and traditions, both within and outside the university? If so, our Basic Dutch 2 course is perfect for you. This course is a continuation of (the intensive) Basic Dutch 1 course, but you can also take it if you already have some basic understanding of the language.
Target group
This course is geared towards international employees, PhD candidates or expats with little knowledge of the Dutch language and who are interested in learning the language for social purposes.
Course level
Entry level: halfway to A1 (CEFR)
Level on completion: A1 (CEFR)
Course contents
The main goal of this course is to learn to communicate in Dutch in simple, everyday situations.
What will this course teach you?
Once you have completed the course, you will be able to:
- ask about arrival and departure times;
- ask where the bus stops;
- book a trip;
- make a hotel room reservation;
- talk about your house;
- ask for someone's address;
- talk about things that happened in the past/past events;
- talk about your holidays;
- order in a café or restaurant;
- make a reservation at a restaurant;
- talk about (your favourite) food and drinks;
- ask about clothing;
- describe colours;
- express your dissatisfaction about something;
- make conversation in a store.
Grammar is always discussed in a communicative context and in functional situations.
For example: When you learn to talk about things that happened in the past, you simultaneously learn about the voltooid tegenwoordige tijd because knowledge of this grammatical concept is relevant to clearly talk or write about the past.
This course will also cover Dutch pronunciation and interesting aspects of Dutch culture.
The lecturer will speak Dutch as much as possible during the course.
