Francesco Montanari joins the Law Group

Per February 15, 2024 Francesco Montanari will join the Law Group!

Dr Francesco Montanari is a lawyer specialized in food law.

Portuguese and Italian by nationality, he holds a LL.M, from the University of Bologna (2000) and a PhD in EU law (2006) from the same University. In the context of his PhD, he investigated the role of sustainability labelling and certification of food and non-food products in the EU. Francesco also holds a MSc in Food Consumer Science from the Open University in Portugal (2020).
For almost a decade, he taught EU food law in training programs organized by the European Commission for national competent authorities of EU and non-EU countries.
He is currently Invited Professor of Food Law in the same MSc where he studied in addition to being Integrated Researcher at the Lisbon Nova School of Law (Nova Consumer Lab and CEDIS).

His main areas of academic research and professional interest are food innovation, labelling, import requirements, and the sustainability of the agri-food chain (notably, packaging, claims and deforestation).
Francesco is a regular speaker in international and national conferences and has authored several academic and professional publications on food law, including a monography on insects as food and feed (2021) and the first handbook on food labelling published in Portugal (2022).
He is also a recognized legal and policy expert in EU food law having taken part in over 20 studies, evaluations and impact assessments for the European Commission and the European Parliament.
Francesco speaks and writes fluently in English, French, Portuguese, and Italian.
