Transformative sustainability practices

The practices needed for sustainable transformation are shaped by policy, knowledge and reciprocal action. At the Wageningen Centre of Sustainability Governance (WCSG), we focus on how regulation, law-making, social norms and (digital) information shapes everyday practices and how these practices in turn lead to bottom-up transitions towards sustainability.

Our role in transformations

Central to our interests are how people, civil society organisations, companies and governments interact with technologies, nature, and markets. By understanding how practices change we focus on the design and implementation of new sustainability trajectories, for example climate neutral housing projects in neighbourhoods, clean energy cooperatives near cities or at sea, or greening rural landscapes through citizens-based initiatives. Our ambition under this theme is to further theories related to social practices, algorithmic governance, and food system transformation.
