Quick insight into the performance of Dutch supermarkets
The Supermarkets Dashboard presents the efforts and performance of Dutch supermarket chains on themes such as biodiversity, the protein transition, resource use and the circular economy, certification schemes, climate, and health. It focuses on food products sold in supermarkets in the Netherlands.
Within the dashboard, supermarkets can see how they perform compared to others on topics such as certification schemes, CO₂ reduction, and product assortment. In addition, policymakers, supply chain partners, researchers, and journalists can use the dashboard to track sustainability trends and compare supermarket performance. The dashboard is freely and publicly accessible.
Since June 2026, the Wheel of Five Monitor has also been included in the dashboard. This monitor shows what share of total turnover comes from healthier food products. In the future, we will explore whether additional topics on sustainability and health can be added.
The Dashboard Supermarkets: Sustainability and Health was developed by Wageningen University & Research. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) is responsible for the sustainability-related topics, while the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport oversees topics related to healthy diets. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) and the Netherlands Nutrition Centre contribute to the Wheel of Five component.
The dashboard was developed in collaboration with supermarkets and civil society organisations. Supermarkets have provided a large share of the underlying data, while additional data have been sourced from publicly available knowledge bases.
