Wageningen University & Research supports the digital transformation of the agri-food sector. Digitalisation is rapidly transforming the agri-food sector. New technologies, data-driven services and AI applications create opportunities for more sustainable, productive and resilient food systems. At the same time, organisations face challenges related to data sharing, interoperability, governance and the adoption of digital innovations. Addressing these challenges supports better decision-making, higher yields and greater sustainability.
By combining expertise in technology, economics and social sciences, we support digital strategies, digital maturity assessments, business models, data sharing solutions and innovation ecosystems. As an independent knowledge partner, we help organisations develop strategies that fit their needs.
Our experts work with farmers, agri-food businesses, technology providers, governments and the European Commission. Through pilot projects, software development, living labs and European initiatives, we translate scientific knowledge into practical solutions. For example, within Data4Food2030 we connect Dutch companies and public organisations to develop data-driven innovations for circular waste management, sustainability in food chains and fresh produce. Our broad network helps ensure innovations fit practice while creating opportunities for international collaboration.
What we offer
The ELSA Lab focuses on the ethical, legal, and social aspects of AI applications and data-driven technology within the agri-food sector. Through 'scans', research, and dialogue with stakeholders, the ELSA Lab provides information and practical tools for sustainable, fair, and socially accepted AI innovations.
WALABI is the research laboratory for business informatics in the agrifood sector at Wageningen University & Research. WALABI bridges the gap between domain-specific and technical disciplines, translating key concepts from various business-related fields into useful information and practical applications for companies in the agrifood sector.
