Spanish 4 (face-to-face)
Do you want to learn Spanish for your internship, study or work in Spain or a Spanish-speaking country and are you already reasonably proficient in Spanish grammar? Are you looking to deepen this knowledge and improve your Spanish communication skills? The course Spanish 4 helps you better understand and speak Spanish.
Target group
Spanish 4 is for anyone who has taken 3 to 4 years of Spanish at middle school and has since been in contact with the Spanish language to some degree, whether through a course or spending some time in a Spanish-speaking country. This course is also intended for anyone who has completed our course Spanish 3. The maximum number of participants per group is 16.
End level
Entry level: A2 (CEFR)
Level on completion: halfway to B1 (CEFR)
Course content
After this course, you will be able to:
- hold simple conversations about familiar topics;
- understand the key information in simple texts;
- formulate your personal opinion in a simple way;
- write texts and emails about familiar topics.
The emphasis is on speaking skills. Reading, listening, and writing skills will also be addressed. You will also learn more about Spanish culture.
What will the classes cover?
Skills:
- Talking about past experiencies in greater detail, including earlier events
- Expressing desires, doubts and recommendations
- Giving and understanding instructions, including negative commands
- Discussing future plans and possibilities more fluently
- Clarifying reasons or motivations behind actions
- Making comparisons and expressing preferences with more accuracy
- Asking for and giving directions or advice clearly
- Reporting conversations or relaying information from others
- Discussing emotions and opinions with greater nuance
- Describing complex scenarios involving multiple people or actions
- Interacting with native speakers more fluently and naturally
Grammar:
- Expressing prohibition, obligation or permission
- Verbal periphrases with infinitive (empezar a + infinitive) or gerund (seguir + gerund)
- Locating an action in time using 'desde' / 'desde que' / 'desde hace'
- Simple future and present subjunctive
- Expressing conditions using 'si' + present indicative or future
- Formulating hypotheses about the future (seguramente/seguro que + future)
- Form and uses of direct, indirect object and reflexive pronouns
- Expressing wishes and needs and offering solutions and addressing problems using the subjunctive
- Indirect speech (me ha dicho que...)
- Using connectors (porque, como, así que, entonces...)
- Pluperfect indicative tense (pretérito pluscuamperfecto de indicativo)
Planning
This course includes 8 classes, one per week. Each class is 1 hour and 45 minutes. You should expect to spend 2 to 3 hours on homework each week.

Certification and exam
To receive a Wageningen in'to Languages certificate, a minimum attendance of 80% is required. A diagnostic test is optional.
