Majors

This page contains information on the majors available within the Environmental Sciences programme, and includes a subject overview for each major.

Major A: Environmental Policy and Economics

This major concentrates on the human aspects of sustainability, and devotes a lot of attention to the role of the government, industry and the community in working towards a sustainable society. Environmental communication is also addressed during this major – How can people be convinced to behave in a more sustainable way? And what even is ‘sustainable behaviour’? How can we ensure that the future costs of climate change are taken into account in the present? And what can be done to make production more sustainable?

Major B: Environmental Quality and Systems Analysis

The major in Environmental Quality and Systems Analysis focuses on the processes that take place within and between the soil, water and the atmosphere. Amongst others, it is about the effects of human activity on organisms and ecosystems, but for example also about the impact of a product on the entire life cycle. It is a big-picture perspective, which students learn to analyse and approach systematically.
