Therapeutic landscapes and blue space
By Karolina Doughty - This research network explores open water swimming in relation to wellbeing and contemporary cultures of health, including connecting issues of neoliberal financialisation with more qualitative understandings of therapeutic relationships to water and swimming. The collaboration will result in a special journal issue, and lead to an international bid for research funding.
Project output includes single-authored and co-authored journal articles and book chapters, also drawing on the following sub-projects:
- On-going research on ‘therapeutic landscapes’ in an individual capacity (2007 – present)
- The University of Brighton project on supervised community treatment for mental health, led by Julia Stroud (PI) (2011-2012).
- The ethnographic study of everyday practices of mobility, led by Lesley Murray (Co-I) (2011-2015), a part of the EPSCR/ UK Energy Programme funded project Disruption.
