Building green, biodiverse and climate-resilient urban environments that enhance livability, ecosystem services and social wellbeing.
At Wageningen University & Research, we help shape the city of the future – one where trees, ponds and parks function as the lungs of city districts and biodiversity finds its place. We work with urban leaders from business, government and social movements to co-create nature-based solutions at scales ranging from migrant settlements and city centres to circular business parks and metropolitan neighbourhoods.
Our approach supports cities in becoming symbiotic landscapes: integrating urban living with soil, water, wind and organisms through social-ecological, circular, institutional and technical networks. We provide tools and services — such as the QUICKScan participatory tool, GreenValueGuidance for business-invested green spaces, and the Greenmonitor satellite-based monitoring platform — to translate nature-based design into actionable urban strategies.
Whether you’re planning a new residential district, re-designing a business campus or retrofitting industrial sites, our expertise helps you convert green zones into resilient, biodiverse assets. We offer evidence on cost-benefit trade-offs, guide stakeholder alignment, and deliver strategies that align urban development with ecological and societal value.
