Intensive summer course Basic Dutch 2

With the intensive summer course Basic Dutch 2 you will be fully immersed in the Dutch language for one week. Would you like to be able to speak Dutch with your colleagues, supervisor, friends or neighbours? What about travelling by public transport, ordering in cafés or restaurants or shopping in the Netherlands? Would you also like to learn about Dutch customs and traditions, both within and outside the university? If so, our Basic Dutch 2 course is perfect for you. This course is a continuation of (the intensive) Basic Dutch 1 course, but you can also take it if you already have some basic understanding of the language.

Target group

This course is geared towards international employees, PhD candidates or expats with little knowledge of the Dutch language and who are interested in learning the language for social purposes.

Entry level: halfway to A1 (CEFR)
Level on completion: A1 (CEFR)

Course contents

The main goal of this course is to learn to communicate in Dutch in simple, everyday situations.

What will this course teach you?

Once you have completed the course, you will be able to:

Grammar is always discussed in a communicative context and in functional situations.

For example: When you learn to talk about things that happened in the past, you simultaneously learn about the voltooid tegenwoordige tijd because knowledge of this grammatical concept is relevant to clearly talk or write about the past.

This course will also cover Dutch pronunciation and interesting aspects of Dutch culture.

The lecturer will speak Dutch as much as possible during the course.

Admission requirements

For this course you need prior knowledge of Dutch. You can sign up for this course, if you have participated in Basic Dutch 1 or the intensive summer course Basic Dutch 1.

Have you studied Dutch before? Then make an appointment via into@wur.nl for an intake interview to discuss which course is suitable.

If German is your native language, you have the option to start with Basic Dutch 2 right away, on the condition that you independently study chapters 1 through 5 of the course book prior to the first class.

Certification

After the course you will receive a certificate from Wageningen in’to Languages, provided you have attended at least 80% of the classes. Would you like to continue improving your language skills? With this certificate you can continue with Intermediate Dutch 1.
