Call for partners: How to gain critical insights into sustainability profiles of agri products?
July 1, 2021 - Project - In many food value chains, more than 70% of environmental & social sustainability impacts relate to farm level and surrounding landscapes. This drives rising private sector commitments on supply chain sustainability, while national & EU legislation (incl. Due Diligence) is underway or extended.
Info on sustainability profiles of agri products is incomplete and fragmented at different sources, especially the ones originating from emerging countries. This PPP aims to generate sustainability profiles for >100 product-country combinations and subnational results for >15 countries. -
Effective visualisation for Digital Twins
July 7, 2021 - Project - A Digital Twin represents the current status of a physical, dynamic, entity that provides explicit and useful knowledge for decision making. To accomplish this, the Digital Twin must transform complex data into useful and understandable visualisations of the (digital) outcomes. This project describes features of effective Digital Twin visualisations. -
Enzymes in a box: Engineering bacterial microcompartments for biotechnological applications
October 8, 2021 - Project - The focus of this project is to bring enzymes and substrates close to each other in a defined space (bacterial microcompartment) to increase the production of certain industrially relevant compounds. -
CONNECTED CIRCULARITY: Collaborative design of transformative pathways towards a bio-based circular economy (Olga Schagen)
December 9, 2019 - Project - As part of the larger Connected Circularity program of the WUR this research project has its focus on developing concrete pathways for the creation of a bio-based circular economy. The bio-based economy converts biomass from land and sea into food, fuels, chemicals and materials. Principles of a circular economy involve: replacing -of- towards renewable energy; elimination of waste; zero emissions; redesign of materials, products and systems (Ellen MacArthur Foundation 2012). -
Project: Fenotypische plasticiteit in wortelarchitectuur: de sleutel tot tolerantie voor parasitaire aaltjes in planten?
November 9, 2018 - Project - This project is financially supported by the Dutch Topsector Horticulture & Starting Materials. Within the Topsector, private industry, knowledge institutes and the government are working together on innovations for sustainable production of safe and healthy food and the development of a healthy green environment. -
Vegetable oil based waxes in industrial applications
November 3, 2021 - Project - Hydrogenated vegetable oils (HVOs) can be produced from a variety of commodity vegetable oils (eg. palm, soybean and rapeseed). HVOs have potential for applications in the industrial waxes market, however their technical shortcomings prevent HVOs from capturing a larger share of the market. If these technical shortcoming are overcome, HVOs could partially replace refined paraffin waxes, derived from crude petroleum slack wax. -
CASTOR: Dutch Pleistocene landscapes in the Anthropocene
October 14, 2021 - Project - Castor is Latin for beaver. Beavers, like humans, transform land and water systems in river landscapes. CASTOR investigates realistic future landscape configurations, and pathways towards these futures. Pathways towards future landscapes are relevant because current well-intended management actions result in patchworks of interventions. Yet, fragmentation – spatial, temporal and in governance – constrains adaptive capacity, restricting responses to climate change and shifting societal demands. By offering actionable knowledge on future landscapes and pathways towards these, CASTOR supports regional adaptation strategies. Because landscape futures are shaped by natural physical processes in interaction with human interventions, CASTOR takes a learning approach – in living labs. -
Food Systems Seismology
January 1, 2021 - Project - Food Systems Seismology will exploit heterogenous data generated and collected by and through WUR partner organizations, such as 4TU, FAO etc to release early warnings of disruptions within food systems globally. The project will contribute to the development of a global data-ecosystem that makes it possible to detect system-wide risks as or before they occur. -
Spatial and temporal distribution of algae patterns in Taihu Lake and its impact factors based on big data and deep learning
November 29, 2021 - Project -
Development of an intranasal vaccine against COVID-19
May 28, 2020 - Project - A vaccine against COVID-19 will be developed by a newly established public private partnership that combines the coronavirus expertise from Utrecht University, the viral vector technology and animal facilities from Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR), and the vaccine production technology from The Institute for Translational Vaccinology (Intravacc).
